IODIO RADIOATTIVO: L’IMPLACABILE ASSASSINO PRECOCE
Come abbiamo appreso, l’iodio radioattivo è stato principalmente responsabile della perdita di vite umane e degli effetti disastrosi che ha avuto sugli operatori di emergenza e sugli addetti all’impianto, dimostrandosi letale. Dopo l’esplosione, alcuni sopravvissuti hanno testimoniato una luce blu intorno al reattore e successivamente è emerso che l’ionizzazione dell’aria ne era la causa principale. Gli operatori hanno inalato l’iodio che era nell’aria e, col tempo, la loro ghiandola tiroidea è stata colpita. In effetti, la maggior parte degli operatori ha perso la vita a causa del cancro alla tiroide, secondo vari avvocati e esperti in incidenti.
