Kate was prepared to go to any lengths to keep the coin. She was likely just as upset as you were during that time. In all honesty, nobody can criticize her for doing that. After all, the fact that it had belonged to her mother gave it a special significance for her.

If we were in her shoes, we might have reacted the way she did. When Kate explained that she couldn’t find the currency, the authorities decided to stop pressing her further.

This suffering was a basic form of torture, and she deserved to be allowed to die in peace after enduring it. Since the museum could not research the artifact, its history and provenance will likely remain unknown for the foreseeable future.
