Unlike some of his peers, 17th president Andrew Johnson was born poor in Raleigh and didn’t even receive a formal education. Banking on his peoples’ skills, Johnson became a mayor first and then the Governor of Tennessee.

He came at a turbulent time when the nation has just witnessed the murder of their beloved president Abraham Lincoln. Unfortunately, he failed massively in his missions and finally faced an impeachment.

Perhaps he couldn’t live up to the expectations of the people after being headed by someone as renowned as Lincoln. Nevertheless, he tried his best and in his lifetime could still boast that he became America’s president.
