MILLARD FILLMORE – PRICE UNDETERMINED, FILLMORE HOUSE, EAST AURORA, NEW YORK
With the death of the 12th president Zachary Taylor, Millard Fillmore became the 13th president of the nation since he was serving as vice president at that time.
Despite being born into poverty, Millard Fillmore became an attorney through passion and determination. As a president, he enforced the Fugitive Slave Act which was criticized by several historians even long after his death. Also, his passage of Compromise delayed the Civil Wars by about 10 years.
His 1826-clapboard home is the place where he lived with his wife and welcomed their son, too. Though his presidency wasn’t as remarkable as others, being the head of the state is an achievement itself!
