Valerie Harper começou sua carreira como dançarina na Broadway e em pouco tempo foi notada pelos produtores de elenco de Hollywood. Ao lado de Cloris Leachman e Ed Asner, Valerie ganhou um trabalho no seriado Mary Tyker Moore Show e se tornou instantaneamente famosa. Sua personagem, Rhoda Gerard, ficou tão querida pelo público que Valerie ganhou um spin-off: o seriado Rhoda foi ao ar entre 1974 e 1978, e Valerie Harper ganhou um Globo de Ouro por sua performance no programa. Além disso, ela também conta com 3 Emmys e um patrimônio líquido de US$ 12 milhões. Em 2016, Valerie Harper declarou que tinha apenas 3 meses de vida em decorrência de um câncer, diagnosticado em 2009. No entanto, ela ainda está conosco e, apesar de algumas rugas, continua muito jovem.
