A Era de Ouro de Hollywood foi o palco do surgimento de diversos atores clássicos, e um desses astros emergentes foi John Wayne. O ator com pinta de cowboy ganhou um Oscar, acumulou diversos papéis brilhantes em obras de prestígio e ficou conhecido como o “Duque” de Hollywood. Quanto à sua vida cotidiana, Wayne gostava de se locomover pela cidade com uma station wagon Pontiac Grand Safari vintage, datado de 1975.
Para proteger e valorizar o carro com toques pessoais, Wayne customizou o veículo com a empresa Barris Kustoms, famosa por esse tipo de serviço. O carro custaria aproximadamente US$40 mil (R$160 mil) se fosse comprado novo, e acabou sendo leiloado após a morte de Wayne.
