Murió el 19 de abril de 2021, a la edad de 73 años, por insuficiencia renal después de estar enfermo durante bastante tiempo. Jim Steinman fue el autor de éxitos ganadores de premios Grammy y de algunas de las baladas más duraderas de la música pop, como I’d Do Anything for Love (but I Won’t Do That), Total Eclipse of the Heart, It’s All Coming Back to Me Now , y Aguantando por un héroe, entre muchos otros.
En su sitio web se le conoce como “El Señor de los Excesos” debido a su personalidad y estilo de vida. Los Angeles Times también se refirió a él como el “Richard Wagner del Rock and Roll”. Fue el compositor y autor de las canciones que predominaron en los discos más vendidos de todos los tiempos: Bat out of Hell de Meat Loaf.
