THOMAS JEFFERSON – $5.95K, MONTICELLO, CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA

The name is enough to make us realize what a huge role he had played in the formation of the great 50 states. Apart from serving as the third president of the USA, he also founded the University of Virginia.

Born and brought up in Colonial Virginia, Thomas Jefferson had a father who was a planter, and after his father’s untimely death, Thomas became the owner of the plantation when he was just 21. He became a lawyer by profession and obtained a license in order to practice. He even went on to fight seven cases on behalf of freedom-seeking slaves.

He had started building his own house atop a hill in Monticello, Virginia, and his passion for designing the house was evident. Even though he had no degree or prior experience in architecture, he kept constructing or even remodeling parts of the house. It was more like his pet project than a big investment!
