FRANKLIN PIERCE – FRANKLIN PIERCE HOMESTEAD, NEW HAMPSHIRE

Franklin Pierce was the 14th president of the USA who was strongly against the anti-slavery groups and activists and even went on to enforce the Fugitive Slave Act.

He thought the abolitionist movement would hinder the development of the entire nation. Though he was popular in his time, his personal life was full of sorrow. None of his children survived and his wife suffered from mental illness and depression all the time.

Pierce got addicted to drinking and that became the reason of his death as he died of cirrhosis of the liver. He lived in a two-story clapboard house built by his father which to this day has been properly maintained.
