It is beyond doubt that the moral costs regarding the Chernobyl mishap made the Soviet Union reel. Since the government never came clear on the disaster and lied on all accounts, the younger generation lost faith in the system and became hostile to the authorities and USSR had to bear the brunt of the population. People who were affected went through severe depression and even contemplated committing suicide. The explosion had adverse impacts on their mental health and they felt lost after they were asked to evacuate their homes. Leaving their roots behind, they had minimal means to survive and hence they turned rogue.
