Le divorce du chanteur et de son épouse Sara Poniatowski a été annoncé à la suite de 23 ans de vie commune. Le couple a pris la décision de médiatiser cette information dans le but de protéger la vie privée de leurs enfants. Dans un communiqué qu’ils ont transmis à l’AFP, on pouvait lire « Merci de respecter leur intimité ». Son titre « Notre histoire » parle bien de son histoire d’amour avec son ex-femme. Le chanteur a déclaré qu’il ne faut pas claquer la porte lorsque l’amour s’en va, parce que ce dernier est toujours là. Marc Lavoine a avoué que ses écrits pour Sara étaient nombreux et qu’il a passé presque toute sa vie avec elle avec un quart de siècle de relation.
