Grażyna Szapołowska przez długie lata unikała publicznych rozmów o swoim pierwszym małżeństwie, podobnie jak Marek Lewandowski, który tłumaczył, że zachowanie prywatności ich relacji było zgodne z prośbą jego byłej żony.
