Embora tecnicamente não precisasse perder peso, ele teve que passar por uma dura provação quando sofreu perda de peso para o “Clube de Compras Dallas”. O meticuloso ator imediatamente diminuiu sua ingestão de calorias, comendo apenas 140 gramas de peixe, uma xícara de legumes, claras de ovo e frango. Infelizmente, isso não foi suficiente para perder 22 quilos e Matthew passou a fazer exercícios físicos extenuantes para atingir o peso ideal para o filme.
