Com seu single de estreia “Heads Carolina, Tails California”, Jo Dee Messina estabeleceu uma carreira de sucesso e se tornou a primeira cantora country feminina a alcançar as primeiras posições nas paradas musicais por várias semanas com músicas do mesmo álbum. Mesmo sendo indicada a muitos prêmios, foi o seu envolvimento com o álcool que a forçou a dar um tempo na sua carreira. Messina conseguiu voltar à música após o tratamento de desintoxicação, mas, infelizmente, mesmo quando as coisas iam bem em sua vida pessoal, ela foi diagnosticada com câncer.
