Su nombre de pila es Althea Rae Janairo y nació en la ciudad de Honolulu en el estado de Hawái. Esta actriz, modelo y cantante tuvo mucha popularidad en los años 90 bajo el nombre de Tia Carrere, que era su nombre artístico. Su actuación como Sydney Fox en la serie de televisión “Treasure Hunters” fue en gran parte responsable de su meteórico ascenso al estrellato.
