Elizabeth Dole and Bob Dole – Together Since 1975
Mary Elizabeth “Liddy” Alexander Hanford Dole is an American politician and author whose political stint during Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and George H. W. Bush’s presidential administrations requires no introduction. Her political career has been nothing short of extraordinary. She even served the United States Senate from 2003 to 2009.
Elizabeth Dole was also successful in her personal life, thanks to her real-life partnership with Bob Dole, her husband of 45 years. Elizabeth recalls Bob looked a little bashful when the two met, and she found this quality of his endearing. When the two were conversing on the telephone, she forgot that she had a date waiting for her in the other room!
The duo met way back in 1972 and soon earned the title of the quintessential Washington power couple. Bob Dole, who was also a U.S. senator from Kansas, quickly made a name for himself in the Republican party. The lovey-dovey couple finally met at the Capitol Hill office and immediately knew they were in it for the long haul. And they finally walked down the aisle three years later, with Elizabeth categorically stating she fell for his kindness. Also, the guy could make her laugh, and he still can make her laugh after all those years. How adorable!
