The director wanted something unique for Bubba’s physical features so Mykelti Williamson, who played Forrest Gump’s best friend, gave the idea for his character’s prominent pout. Zemeckis liked the idea and had the actor wear a prosthetic mouthpiece to help extend and jut out his lower lip. It didn’t go well for Williamson since it actually caused problems for him later on.
