USS Turner Joy

The USS Turner Joy which launched on May 5, 1958, was one of 18 Forest Sherman-class destroyers in the U.S. Navy. This ship was named after Vice Admiral Charles Turner Joy, a key figure during WWII and the Korean War, and it spent its entire career in the Pacific.

Many remember it for the significant role it played in the Vietnam War, including its involvement in the infamous Gulf of Tonkin Incident alongside the USS Maddox—a moment that escalated U.S. involvement in the war. After years of service, the Turner Joy was decommissioned in 1982. Today, it remains a reminder of a pivotal era in U.S. naval history.
