Odyssey is the source of this feminine form of Odysseus, which was derived from the Greek word. Odessa, which literally means “long journey” or “wandering.” is a name that implies its meaning. Additionally, it may connote “quest” or “wrathful”.
According to popular legend, Catherine the Great of Russia bestowed the name “Odyssey” upon the Ukrainian port city of Odessa as a tribute to Homer’s epic poem Odyssey, which had its debut publication in 1614. This name was used by a significant number of people during its heyday in the late 1800s and early 1900s; however, its popularity started to wane about the year 1940.
