How Galaxy S8 will Help Samsung

After the big issue with Samsung Galaxy Note 7, the company hopes to bring back their customers with the Galaxy S8.

Samsung Note 7 explosion

The company experienced a major backlash when their latest device exploded when a user charged it. It was released on August 19 this year but there are several reports of device explosion in the 2.5 billion phones that were produced. As an aid to this event, the South Korean company recalled the phones and replaced it with ‘safe’ Note 7 devices. However, there are still reports that even the replacements were still exploding.

All of these incidents led to another product recall and discontinuation of the production of the Note 7. As we have seen, Samsung handled the recall very well by being responsible and thorough with the process. There are two formal recalls from the company and they made sure that everyone returns the product. They even went as far as producing software updates that virtually bricks the device. Since the main problem was the manufacturer, Samsung offered free exchanges to their clients where they can upgrade for free in the future. Furthermore, to admit their mistake and assure the customers, Samsung issued full-page apology advertisements in print media, which was signed by Gregory Lee – president and CEO of Samsung Electronics North America. During this time, the company stated that the incident of exploding batteries is still under investigation. As a conclusion to the ad, it states the company’s main priority is safety.

“Most importantly, safety remains our top priority. We are grateful for your ongoing support and again, we are truly sorry.”

In order to find the main problem with Note 7, Samsung made an official investigation and hired three major independent companies. They are tasked to thoroughly investigate the issue and one of these companies specializes in the battery field. To show that Samsung is fully committed to their clients and gain back their trust, the results of the investigations have been fully submitted to the public domain. This action is truly commendable since it is a high level of transparency from one of the biggest companies all over the world.

In the recent studies, it showed that the main problem with the Note 7 originated from its battery. Therefore, Samsung made major steps in order to prevent this incident from happening again. Their first step is a huge investment in the battery technology, where the company invested the amount of $128 million so that they can be sure that they will produce safer batteries for their products. Though Samsung is a huge company worldwide, this amount is pretty huge. In addition, there will be now an additional eight-point battery safety check in their manufacturing process. Therefore, whenever they release a new smartphone, this will undergo in this stage. For the Galaxy 8, it will be the central pillar of its manufacturing process, which the company hopes will prevent any major problems that can happen in the future.

To compete against the products of Apple, there are rumors that Samsung is going to use a completely new design for the S8. Based on the reports, there will be two separate devices. The possible names will be Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. Screen sizes can be 5.1” and 5.5” or 5.7” and 6.2”, which can be considered as a tablet instead of a smartphone. Some rumors about the specs include: 4K screen; 4,200mAh battery; 60GB of RAM; dual lens camera; 30-MP rear camera and 8MP front-facing camera; Exynos 8895 processor; Mali-G71 GPU; powerful screen resolutions so you can use it with Samsung Galaxy Gear and Google Daydream VR; and an increased internal memory of 64GB or 128GB. Moreover, the new Bixby AI assistant may possibly debut in this device. Since this software was also produced by Viv Labs, which was previously involved with Apple’s Siri, we can only assume that these two might have similarities and even differences. For the price, it may be around $850 or €775. Just like other products of Samsung, the S8 may be released in late February or early March.

Though unfortunate events happened last year due to the Note 7, we are confident that Samsung can still thrive and continue to grow in the market. Their actions were commendable and their apology was very sincere, which is something that you can’t see often these days. So we are giving our respect to this company and we can’t wait for the release of S8 this year.
