Will Smith was definitely lucky that he got a big break when NBC approached him for the role of the Fresh Prince. But, truth be told, Smith had enough talent already, and he would have made his mark anyway. The sitcom became a huge hit and was aired for six seasons — from 1990 to 1996. The story started when Will Smith, who played himself in the show, fled from his hometown in Philadelphia after a fight. He was sent to stay with his rich Uncle Phil Banks and his family in Bel-Air. Coming from a background that was in stark contrast to his uncle’s place, Will’s way of coping with the wealthy upper class was shown in a humorous way. The theme song was written and sung by none other than Will Smith. Needless to say, the show became a huge hit.
