Il est tout à fait légitime de croire que la silhouette qui émerge à gauche de la photo est un spectre, tant son apparence immaculée interpelle. Pourtant, la biche à proximité ne semble guère effrayée par son approche, car cette mystérieuse figure n’est autre qu’un écureuil volant, et non un revenant égaré.
On peut s’interroger sur l’origine de cette blancheur éclatante du rongeur au moment de la prise de vue. L’hypothèse la plus plausible est qu’un projecteur a illuminé la scène, mais une telle intensité lumineuse aurait sans doute effrayé la biche, dont les yeux sont particulièrement sensibles à la clarté.
