Joseph Tsai – $11.34 billion CAN ($9 billion US)

Joseph Tsai became a private equity investor in 1999 with Investor AB, the investment part of the Wallenberg family, Sweden’s iconic business empire. Tsai, born in Taiwan, lives in Hong Kong and holds Canadian citizenship. His life took a 360-degree turn as he traveled to Hangzhou, in eastern China, to take a good look at Alibaba, the Chinese-based startup launched by the entrepreneurial wizard Jack Ma. Though Investor AB did not think of investing just then, Tsai decided to invest in Ma’s company.

The Canadian billionaire is currently the co-founder of Alibaba Group Holding. He has been invested in the business for 20 years, he now holds the position of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Executive Vice-Chairman of the Board.

The Yale Law School graduate has spent time at various firms before finally joining Alibaba.  Joseph Tsai’s current net worth rests at $11.34 billion CAN ($9 billion US).
