DIE NÄCHTLICHE EVAKUIERUNG VON PRYPJAT
Die Stadt wurde gebaut, um die Menschen unterzubringen, die im Kernkraftwerk Tschernobyl in der Ukraine arbeiten. Ihre Lebens- und Krankenversicherungen wurden angesichts der Gefährlichkeit ihrer Arbeit von den Behörden geregelt, und es wurden alle Vorkehrungen getroffen, um ihnen einen angenehmen Aufenthalt zu ermöglichen. Die Stadt hatte in etwa die Größe einer amerikanischen Bergbaustadt, und die Gesamtzahl der dort lebenden Arbeiter und ihrer Familien betrug fast 50.000. Obwohl die Stadt als ziemlich klein galt, gab es in Prypjat ein Krankenhaus, fünfzehn Schulen, drei Hallenbäder und zehn verschiedene Sporthallen. Sie alle wurden zum Zeitpunkt der Katastrophe aufgegeben und sind seitdem dem unaufhaltsamen Verfall unterworfen.
