In 1989, the glitz and glamour of television were nowhere in sight for the Harrison family. Richard “Old Man” Harrison had just opened the doors of the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, setting the stage for what was, at the time, a 24-hour family-run business.

Alongside his son Rick, grandson Corey, and family friend Austin “Chumlee” Russell, they were just regular folks managing their shop, far from the spotlight. Yet, Old Man Harrison had already known by then that his place would make it big. So, he persistently pitched the idea of a TV show to multiple networks. His steadfastness finally paid off when one network took a chance.
