Con más de 40 años de experiencia, John Spencer era un actor muy conocido en Hollywood por su participación en series y en películas. El actor comenzó su carrera en The Patty Duke Show y una de las series por la cual recibió más reconocimientos fue The West Wing. El actor incluso fue nominado para el Globo de oro al mejor actor de reparto en una miniserie. Lamentablemente, 2 años después de la nominación, el actor sufrió un ataque al corazón cuatro días antes de su cumpleaños y falleció. Este actor fue muy querido y todos sus compañeros de The West Wing quedaron muy afectados por su muerte.
