Los Chesapeake Retrievers tienen la clara ventaja, cuando se trata de conocer gente nueva, de ser sociables y, al mismo tiempo, mantener un aire de misterio. Comenzarán su adiestramiento cuando aún son cachorros, pero en cuanto sientan que sus amos están en peligro, se apresurarán a protegerlos. Los perros que tienen un alto nivel de complejidad emocional son sumisos e independientes, por lo que no tendrán miedo de llamar la atención si la situación se vuelve dañina.
