„Der Kaiser“ Franz Beckenbauer gehörte zweifellos zu den bekanntesten Persönlichkeiten des deutschen Fußballs und hatte sich über die Jahre ein beachtliches Vermögen und eine Sammlung schöner Erinnerungen geschaffen. Nur wenige Jahre vor seinem Tod kehrte ein Stück seiner Vergangenheit zu ihm zurück: sein blauer Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9.
Bereits 1976 hatte er sich das Modell zugelegt, bevor es ihm in einem Italienurlaub gestohlen wurde. Später erwarb er ihn wieder, nur um ihn erneut zu verkaufen. Dann, Jahre später, kam das Auto wieder in seinen Besitz – diesmal durch einen alten Bekannten.
