Penny Marshall — Diabetes-Related Complications

Penny Marshall, who grew up in the northernmost part of the New York City, carved a niche for herself in Hollywood. The late actress had shot to fame when she played the whacky brewery worker Laverne Defazio in Laverne & Shirley opposite Cindy Williams. The show, which was aired from 1976 till the mid-1980s, was a runaway hit. Marshall also debuted as a filmmaker with this show as she directed quite a few of its episodes and started directing feature films with the 1986 comedy Jumpin‘ Jack Flash. Marshall, who never really announced retirement, died in December 2018 at the age of 75 from diabetes-inflicted complications.
