Barbara Harris – Lung Cancer

Barbara Harris the Oscar-nominated Freaky Friday actress and co-founder of comedy improv troupe The Second City, has died at the age of 83 in Scottsdale, Arizona following a battle with lung cancer. Harris is best known for portraying mother Ellen Andrews in the original 1976 version of Freaky Friday alongside a young Jodie Foster, and for co-founding The Second City comedy troupe in Chicago, Illinois in 1959. The group is famous for nurturing the talents of Bill Murray, John Candy, Dan Aykroyd, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Steve Carell, among others. Her Family Plot co-star Bruce Dern tweeted on Tuesday night, “With the passing of Barbara Harris today, our generation lost its true female comic genius and a girl for the ages.
