Gesine Marwedel’s bird-themed project didn’t just end with the pelican. This time, she asked a model to stand on one leg with her arm extended above to create the illusion of a flamingo. Perhaps now is also a good time to mention that these unique birds do not stand on one leg simply for aesthetic purposes.

Experts have concluded that flamingos pull one leg up to conserve heat and reduce body fatigue, allowing them to stay warm for longer and move quickly when threatened. What’s even more interesting is how Gesine replicated the texture of feathers on the model’s body.
