The First Bad Feature In The New Samsung Galaxy S8

Remember what happened last year with Samsung Note 7? There are several videos online that proved that it explodes when you charge it. Samsung immediately took an action by making a product recall and replacing it with an ‘improved’ version of the Note 7. However, the second version of the product still explodes. As a result, airlines all over the world immediately banned their passengers from bringing Note 7 and Samsung made another product recall.

Samsung is one of the biggest tech companies all over the world so it is a major backlash for them to have this kind of incident. Furthermore, they are currently in a stiff competition with Apple in terms of providing the latest smartphones. In order to gain back the trust of their clients, Samsung made a public apology using a full-page advertisement.  In addition, they promised that those who purchased Note 7 will be able to upgrade their gadgets for free. Lastly, they are conducting an investigation to know the main source of the problem and what caused the smartphone to explode.

Another commendable action from Samsung is uploading all of the results for the Note 7 investigation in a public domain, which means that everyone can access it. As a conclusion, they were able to pinpoint the battery as the main problem. Since the mystery has finally been solved, the company promised to include additional quality control and safety measures. Moreover, they invested $128 million in improving the safety of batteries that will be used in their next gadgets and devices. Through these actions, Samsung is trying hard to clean up their mess last year. They even stated that they will not abandon the Note series and will use the upcoming Galaxy S8 to redeem their name.

Whenever there is a new gadget that will be released in the market, it has been a drill to wait for ‘leaks’ about its specs. Therefore, it is not surprising that there are several rumors about Galaxy S8. However, it seems like more of a ‘bad news’. The latest ‘leak’ is about the position of the fingerprint scanner.

According to CNet Korea, they have a very credible source that gave detailed schematics of the Galaxy S8. It is somehow believable since it exactly matches the prototype leak. The fingerprint scanner is located to the upper right side of the camera. In addition to the report, Samsung’s main reason for placing the sensor in the right part is because they expect our fingers to naturally lie on this side regardless of the hands’ size. Several smartphones like Google Pixel XL has the same design but there are several cons with S8’s design.

  • It is harder to reach

People who have small fingers, usually women, will have a hard time reaching the scanner. So if you have small fingers, you will have to adjust the S8 in your hand before you can unlock it. As a result, it will have a higher probability of slipping in your hands.

  • It is harder to use if you are left handed

If you are right handed and needs to unlock your phone then you can do it easily. However, it will be harder for left handed people because you need to put your fingers on the other side of the phone. In case that you are right handed, there are also instances where you will need to unlock it using your other hand.

  • Most of the time you will accidentally put your fingers on the camera lens

This will result in building up of grease and dirt in your smartphone’s camera lens. In addition, long fingernails can damage the lens. Overall, it will affect the quality of the images that the smartphone can capture. According to the rumors, the S8 will have a 30MP for the rear camera but if your lens was damaged then it will be useless.

Some people may think that the position of the fingerprint scanner is only a trivial issue. It may irritate the users occasionally but it can be very annoying after a long time. In addition, it became a common way to unlock a smartphone and based on research people does it up to 130 times per day. Many people are excited with Galaxy S8’s improved specs but are frustrated with this news. On the brighter side, we can’t still be sure with these ‘leaks’. We can only hope that this is only a false rumor.
