Phil Donahue is credited for being the first host to have made tabloid talk shows popular on TV. The Phil Donahue Talk Show got the ball rolling apparently. It was the first show to talk about all kinds of taboo topics, so it didn’t take time to become popular.
He was in a semi-retirement after his show went off-air, but he came back to host another in the 2000s. For his prominence, Phil is called the “king of daytime talk”, and even Oprah Winfrey admitted he is the main reason her show had a chance of happening. Phil is now eighty-three and owns $25M.
