Ulysses S. Grant dabbled in a few other professions before becoming the President of the United States. After his time in the Army, he managed to become a housing agent, farmer, and rent collector but failed at virtually everything. Even an attempt at being a firewood seller left him with no earnings and nothing good for his career portfolio. After his time at the White House, he once more got into a failed investment, probably thinking his luck had changed – brave man. While he made for a great president, business just wasn’t his strong suit. You’d never expect a president of the United States to go broke, but Grant certainly did. He’s not alone, however, as Abraham Lincoln was just like him with his financial problems.
