The story started when Will Smith, who played himself in the show, fled from his hometown in Philadelphia after a fight. He was sent to stay with his rich Uncle Phil Banks and his family in Bel-Air. Coming from a background that was in stark contrast to his uncle’s place, Will’s way of coping with the wealthy upper class was shown in a humorous way. The theme song was written and sung by none other than Will Smith. Needless to say, the show became a huge hit.
