Dollar Bills In A Washing Machine

IMG_5543The very first thought that would pop into your head is that when the paper bills get wet, it will get destroyed (unless you live in a country where money is made of plastic like in Australia) but the thing is, you wouldn’t just wash the money like you wash clothes but instead, you should get an old lingerie bag or if you don’t have, you can get it from any women’s section at the any women’s clothing store for less than $10, depending on the store. If you don’t know what a lingerie bag is, it is actually a small, zip-up bag that is made of fine mesh and is used to wash help protect the lingerie while it is in the washing machine and you will use this to keep your money protected as it washes as well because it is very delicate. The bag’s purpose is to keep all the heavy streams of water, as well as the harsh movement of the washing machine that could ruin your money.

However, you gotta make sure to be careful with your every move because dollar bills are apparently made of mostly cotton with some durable cellulose fibers so that actually means that they are incredibly safe to be cleaned in the washing machine, but of course, with the right method.

Cleaning Coins

IMG_5539Coins, never get old or tear up so they actually last for years. If your parents or grandparents have collected coins from over the past few decades, there is a year written on every coin, and you will see how old it actually is and unlike dollar bills, they don’t get ruined. Cleaning coins are pretty easy, you wouldn’t need to be extra careful compared with the dollar bills.

All you need is a basin with warm water and mix in some soap. It is advisable to use a mild liquid soap for best results.

Once you have your warm water in a basin, add a small amount of liquid soap, depending on how much water your basin has. Make sure to distribute the soap evenly. Mild soaps are considered to be the best when it comes to cleaning coins because, you would want to maintain the condition of the coin, especially if it has been around for a long time. But if you don’t really care and all you want is to get the germs out of it, you can use any type of liquid soap.

IMG_5541Once you have your mixture, place your coins into the soapy water, scrub them using a sponge and let it sit for about half an hour, depending on how dirty they actually are. If the soapy water is starting to darken, it means that it is working and the dirt is being removed from the coins. Once you think it is clean enough, drain the coins and rinse with cold water this time, and place them on a towel to dry.
