Dubai’s Taxi Evolution
In 2019, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) took a futuristic leap, piloting the world’s inaugural driverless taxi service. Engineered by Cruise, a General Motors subsidiary, this innovation arises from an exclusive agreement with the RTA stretching until 2030. The cars, founded on the Chevrolet Bolt blueprint, maintain a familiar Chevy Bolt ambiance with one futuristic twist: a self-operating steering wheel.
The taxis come packed with over 40 sensors to safely navigate urban complexities. These sensors, including LiDAR, cameras, and radars, grant a comprehensive 360-degree view, capturing details from distant obstacles to immediate road conditions. Such advancements are propelling Dubai into a new era of transportation.
