While traffic jams universally test the patience of motorists, Dubai has plans to soar above the gridlock. The city’s skies are increasingly dotted with helicopter taxis, ferrying vehicles of the affluent. These aerial cabs promise a congestion-free future, especially noticeable to those residing in the iconic Burj Khalifa.
Duncan Walker, CEO of Skyports, the London-based firm crafting the UAE’s pioneering vertiport, foresees a transformative urban landscape. At the 3rd Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport held in 2023, he projected that by 2026, it will be the first city with a vertiport network for consistent air taxi services. The city’s ambitions lie in electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) technology.
