Launched in 2014, Dubai’s Awnak service stands distinct from ambulances and taxis, bridging a crucial gap in non-emergency medical transport. Initially, ten vehicles were rolled out, catering primarily to individuals with limited physical dexterity who don’t need an ambulance but can’t travel unassisted.
Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the RTA, emphasized its value for the elderly and disabled. But don’t mistake it for a standard taxi – it’s more like a limousine service. Each vehicle, loaded with specialized facilities, ensures tailored transit experiences. Trained drivers, coordinated with health authorities, ensure top-notch care. Notably, you can’t hail Awnak like a regular cab; medical facilities exclusively provide it.
