Always A Soft Spot For Children
When Princess Diana arrived in Australia in April 1983 for her first official royal tour as the Princess of Wales, she was welcomed by crowds of delighted fans. Many of them waved both the British and Australian flags in honor of her. Here she is, meeting schoolchildren on a trip to Alice Spring School.
The tour was a huge success, and Princess Diana left Australia with a newfound admiration from the Australian people, who graciously gave her gifts, such as flowers and chocolates. The princess wearing a dress by Jan van Velden also visited the Yandina Ginger Factory in Queensland that day.
