Brodie était ravi d’essayer sa toute nouvelle canne à pêche, ce qui était l’une des raisons pour lesquelles il voulait aller pêcher au lac Hartwell ce jour-là. Comme toute sa famille était consciente qu’il avait un fort intérêt à se lancer dans la pêche, à son onzième anniversaire, ils ont choisi de lui offrir une canne à pêche en cadeau.
Parce que Brodie était si enthousiaste à propos de ce voyage, il a persuadé deux garçons plus âgés de l’accompagner. Ils sont allés au lac avec l’intention de pêcher, mais rien n’aurait pu les préparer au trésor insolite qu’ils trouveraient dans l’eau.
