It’s a Slam Dunk!
If there’s one competition that sports photographers enjoy, that’s got to be a Slam Dunk. The woman in the picture makes the photographer’s job even easier by keeping a beautiful pose and facial expression even though she’s in the middle of the air. We can’t imagine basketball without Slam Dunk contests, but when did the tradition start?
Funnily enough, the first Slam Dunk contest was created not by the NBA but by ABA, a competing basketball league. ABA wanted to steal some viewers away from NBA, so they organized the first-ever Slam Dunk contest in 1976 at the McNichols Sports Arena in Denver.
