Bruno Fernandes foi, durante muito tempo, conhecido como o Goleiro Bruno, do Flamengo. O jogador esteve em campo em 234 partidas pelo time, no qual permaneceu de 2006 a 2010. Até o momento, Bruno tem seis prêmios individuais do futebol, três dos quais são de Melhor Goleiro na Seleção do Campeonato Carioca. Bruno Fernandes esteve na mídia no início desta década pelos terríveis acontecimentos em seu sítio, localizado em Esmeralda, em Minas Gerais. O imóvel, que tem cerca de 5 mil metros quadrados, piscina e um campo de futebol, foi palco de uma das maiores investigações de homicídio na mídia brasileira. O sítio foi colocado à venda pouco após a prisão de Bruno, em 2010, por colaborar com o sequestro e o assassinato de Eliza Samúdio. Inicialmente, o valor pedido era de R$ 800 mil, mas o sítio acabou perdendo valor após a polêmica e foi vendido por R$ 300 mil em 2013.
