La ciudad de Pripyat, ahora una inquietante ciudad fantasma, ha dejado una profunda huella en la cultura popular, convirtiéndose en un imán para cineastas de todo el mundo. Antes de la disolución de la Unión Soviética, este lugar ya era reconocido por su atmósfera única, y desde entonces ha sido el escenario de varias producciones. En 2012, Chernobyl Diaries utilizó la ciudad como telón de fondo para una historia de terror, donde turistas atrapados en el lugar se enfrentan a criaturas mutantes.
Películas como Die Hard y Transformers: Dark of the Moon también incluyen la famosa planta nuclear. Sin embargo, no cabe duda de que los directores y actores preferirían recrear la zona en otros lugares por razones de seguridad, con algún que otro abogado de accidentes a la vista.
