Hoy, las aulas de Pripyat están selladas, y los libros escolares, que quedaron abandonados desde el desastre, se han convertido en sombríos testimonios del pasado. Aparecen desordenados y en un estado de revisión, sus páginas deterioradas por el tiempo y la humedad. Aunque resulta extraño ver estos libros en tan mal estado, es un recordatorio brutal de la interrupción que sufrió la vida en la ciudad.
Antes del accidente, más de 5.000 niños de jardines de infantes y preescolares, y casi 7.000 adolescentes en la escuela secundaria, formaban parte de la comunidad escolar de Pripyat. Sin embargo, aún es incierto cuántos de ellos cursaban estudios universitarios en ese momento, y muchos nunca pudieron completar su educación debido al desastre.
