Criado em uma família com histórico de obesidade, Meatloaf teve problemas de peso ao envelhecer, atingindo 145 quilos. Conhecendo as repercussões da obesidade, Meatloaf finalmente mudou sua vida e aderiu ao Programa Slim Fast. Ele também mudou sua dieta rica em proteínas e se tornou vegetariano. As mudanças drásticas o ajudaram a perder peso pouco a pouco ao longo de muitos anos, perdendo mais de 54 kg.
