LES RETOMBÉES DE L’EXPLOSION ONT ÉTÉ RESSENTIES JUSQU’EN EUROPE OCCIDENTALE
L’explosion de la centrale nucléaire de Tchernobyl en 1986 a été suivie d’un incendie qui a persisté pendant plus d’une semaine. Le feu a fait des ravages sur la centrale et les zones environnantes, et la fumée qu’il a produite a aussi rendu l’air irrespirable eu égard à un niveau de radioactivité très élevé.
Les retombées atomiques ont d’abord été ressenties en Ukraine et dans une partie de la Biélorussie. La fumée a cependant été transportée par les courants de l’atmosphère pour atteindre vers l’Europe occidentale, créant alors une pluie nucléaire en France, au Royaume-Uni, en Belgique et en Irlande.
