IL A FALLU ATTENDRE 36 HEURES POUR QUE L’ÉVACUATION COMMENCE
Les habitants de Pripyat ont eu l’intuition qu’il y avait un problème sérieux avec la centrale nucléaire de Tchernobyl dès l’instant où ils ont entendu une explosion le 26 avril 1986. Les autorités locales ont pourtant attendu près de 36 heures avant de le confirmer et ordonner l’évacuation de la ville.
Le plan d’évacuation a d’ailleurs dépassé Pripyat pour s’élargir à un rayon d’au moins 10 km autour de la centrale nucléaire sur les quelques jours qui ont suivi l’explosion. Près de 350 000 personnes ont été évacuées au total, mais beaucoup d’entre elles n’ont pas été délocalisées par la suite.
