JAMES BUCHANAN – PRICE UNDETERMINED, WHEATLAND, LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA

Just before the start of the Civil War, James Buchanan became the 15th American President. Before becoming the president, he was a lawyer from Lancaster.

His inability to address the problem of slavery and driving the nation towards the Civil War go largely against him. It doesn’t come as a surprise therefore that he ranks among the worst presidents of all time.

His Wheatland house had served as his safe haven and oasis of peace amid all the unrest in the political world. It was here where he came after retirement and finally breathed his last at the age of 77.
