James A. Garfield – Price Undetermined, Lawnfield, Mentor, Ohio

‘Lawnfield’ came under Garfield’s custody in 1876 and his huge family was one of the prime reasons why he opted to move into this house and built eleven more rooms.

This place has always been memorable for one more reason – Garfield campaigned for the presidency right here in 1880. He served as president from March 1881 till the time he was assassinated that same year.

Four years after James lost his life, his wife decided to add a Memorial Library to the property. It was indeed a good investment as all the presidents after Garfield followed suit.
